The Master Architecture and the Master Urbanism (MAU) are four-year part-time master programs at Fontys Academy of the Arts in Tilburg (Academie van Bouwkunst). Our students combine their professional practice with academic exploration and reflection, developing into designers who approach complex spatial challenges with a critical and socially engaged perspective. At the heart of the MAU lies the concept of “learning in practice,” where students link real-world challenges from their work context to academic research and design experimentation. In a setting that emphasizes dialogue, social engagement, and spatial imagination, students develop their own position as designers and actively reflect on the role of architecture and urbanism in a complex world.
As Graduation Coordinator, you play a pivotal role in the graduation process of our students. You are responsible for the organization, guidance, and quality assurance of the graduation trajectory. Together with core lecturers, researchers, and external reviewers, you ensure an inspiring, transparent, and well-structured process in which students prepare to become thoughtful, responsible, and compassionate architects and urbanists for the future.
Beyond coordination and teaching, you actively contribute to the ongoing development of the program: you bring in your professional practice experience, share your vision on the future of architecture and urbanism, and participate in shaping the curriculum. With your background in design researc, you help strengthen the academic and reflective dimension of the program. You have the capacity to inspire and motivate students, guiding them to explore their own positions as designers.
You hold an academic level of thinking and a deep-rooted passion for architecture and urban planning, you have outstanding organizational skills and maintain a broad (inter)national network of architects, urban planners and cultural institutions, contributing to a strong professional presence within the professional field.
